SAMP?

Stéphane Erard 5 years ago updated by Deborah Baines 4 years ago 3

Hello

I've just tested the search capacities for solar system images. They are very nice in the interface, however I can't send selected images to Aladin (or ImageJ, with plugin) via SAMP - the image arrive in the application, but is not plotted ("repaint" error message in Aladin).  Am I missing something?

Dear Stéphane,

there is currently not the option to send HST and Herschel images via SAMP; the reason is that the format served by the corresponding archives (a .tar file) is not understood by all VO applications. My guess is that you clicked on the SAMP button on the side of the metadata table; this sends the table itself to Aladin or any other VO tool you have open in your computer.

When there is the option to send images via SAMP, the button appears in the table between the "Center on observation" and the "Preview" buttons. I have just tested this with XMM-Newton data and it worked for me, sending the image I had chosen to Aladin.

Our engineers are currently working on a solution to enable unpacking the .tar files when they are sent via SAMP. We will let you know when it is implemented.

Cheers,

Belén

Apparently what is sent through SAMP is the metadata table (test with HST and Herschel, several Mars images). This goes to TOPCAP and also in Aladin. When I click a line from it in Aladin, the preview picture displays in my browser, not in Aladin, and the image is send to the browser for download. Same in TOPCAT: only the postcard_url can be plotted, not the image itself. Is that because of the tar format? Apparently tar files only contain a gz image - this should plot directly. Pointing to the gz instead of the tar would allow for direct display. Plus plotting the postcard in Aladin would help (is that a configuration issue on my side?)
