SIMBAD search results

Andy Pollock 1 year ago updated by Deborah Baines 1 year ago 5

On clicking the SIMBAD search icon, in my case under a Gaia DR3 source, the result is unexpectedly downloaded in a text file called "simbad.txt" rather than displayed in a new browser window as used to be the case and is still so with all the other icons NED et al.

Not a bug

I'm glad we found it, and glad it wasn't an ESASky bug in the end!

Many thanks for contacting us!

Best regards,

Debbie

Ha ! That's it.

I also use SIMBAD all the time and was playing around with something else a couple of days ago. I was not aware that SIMBAD choices apply browser wide.

Good detective work !

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Could it be your SIMBAD output format options here? : https://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-fout

Do you have the file output selected?

Can you also test from this direct link, does it also download a file? : https://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-coo?&Coord=261.181980788827d-34.194661067092d&CooFrame=FK5&Radius=2&Radius.unit=arcmin"

Many thanks,

Debbie

Good to hear from you.

Dear Andy,

Good to hear from you, but sorry you're experiencing a bug! We don't seem to be able to reproduce this, trying a number of browsers and operating systems. Can you tell us which Gaia source you're trying and with which browser, browser version and Operating System you're using?

Many thanks and regards,

Debbie
