This is now possible thanks to the slider implemented in version 3.2

For the records, this functionality has finally been implemented in version 3.2!

Dear Daniel,

sorry for having left your post unreplied. As Deborah explained, the all-sky maps available right now are just RGB representations of the data from given telescopes/surveys, created by combining different filters. You can find more information about how the colours have been assigned to the different wavelengths/frequencies/energies in our documentation. These maps are intended for quick visualisation and not to do science. However, we are working on a way to improve this visualisation, so that users can, for example, play with the image cuts. We hope to have more news on this in the near future.

Regarding your second suggestion, about the colour maps designed to accommodate colour-blind people, you may have noticed that our treemaps (which pop up when you click on the buttons to search for data) are now colour-blind friendly.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear María,

we now have a python module that allows you to use ESASky in a Jupyter Notebook. You can work with the capabilities of ESASky and also upload your own data to the application. Go here for more information:

Dear Pedro,

since version 3.2, you can overlay a coordinate grid on the field of view. It is also possible to take a screenshot with all the overlays. While this is still not what you are asking for, we hope you find it useful. We will keep working toward implementing your suggestion.

Please note also that the size of the FoV is now provided as RAxDEC.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear Antonio,

we are happy to announce that XMM-SUSS 4.1 is now available in ESASky 3.2.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear pgalindo,

we are happy to announce that the AKARI Point Source catalogue has been integrated in version 3.2, released last Friday. As for IRAS and DENIS, I am afraid you still have to wait, or use the pyESASky widget as Deborah suggested:

Dear Becky,

I am happy to tell you that we have improved the publications feature in ESASky 3.2 (released last Friday, November 15). You can now choose if you want to update on move or manually only when you want to do a new search. On regions with many sources with related publications, you can also customise the number of sources to be displayed. Hopefully this is useful and easier to understand.

I take the chance to let you know that in the search box you can now also search by author or bibcode.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear all,

we are happy to announce that in the last release (ESASky 3.2) you have the possibility to overlay a coordinate grid. The FoV is now indicated as RAxDEC. Hopefully this is more informative of the size of the FoV you are visualising.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear Oleg,

regarding your item 2, since last Friday, November 15, you can use a slider to move through a stack of maps, allowing you to play with the transparency. Please note that you already had the option of changing the colour map by clicking on the rainbow button next to the HiPS name.

Regarding item 4, we have not yet added a scale bar, but in this version you have the possibility to overlay a coordinate grid, and the FoV is now indicated as RAxDEC. We hope this is useful to get a better idea of the scale of the images.

We keep working on the integration of more data and functionalities, hopefully we can fulfil more of your wishes soon.

Cheers,

Belén
