Welcome to the ESASky user forum! The aim of this forum is to have a place to collect feature requests from users, allow conversations between users and gauge the Astronomy community's priorities related to the ESASky application. "Explore observations for this region" does not work if the object is not in the center of the image FOV
Example:
Search: NGC6221, click on "Explore observations for this region". The XMM observations are not shown until one expands the FoV up to about 24' , which is the 2xdistance from NGC 6221 to the center of the XMM observations (e.g. 0690580101)
Would it be possible to have access to the Chandra spectra as well?
Would it be possible to have access to the Chandra spectral products as well as to the XMM-Newton spectral products?
Filtering the publications does not update the symbols on image
I tried looking for publications on a crowded region like e.g. M31, and when I filtered the list of publications by e.g. journal, I got just 6 publications, but the number of academic hats in the display were not modified, while I would have expected that, just like with the observation footprints, only those objects from the filtered observations would have remained.. Is it possible to do that?
copy the coordinates of cursor position in the sky
It would be great to be able to right-click anywhere in the sky in ESASky, and get the option to copy the coordinates to the clipboard to be used afterwards. That is possible with Aladin Desktop and it is an essential tool if one wants to follow up on something interesting they have seen in the images..
Cannot retrieve all the Herschel PACS 70 micron images from a region
I want to retrieve only the Herschel PACS 70 micron images from a region of the sky, but if i search for Herschel I get all the PACS observations in bundles with the 70 and the 160 microns.. So I need to retrieve them all and then separate with a custom script the 70 micron from the other files.. Is there a way to be able to download easily Herschel FITS files for just one band directly?
"Sources in chosen area" tag hides the selected source
When having a catalog active and you update the FOV, the "Sources in chosen area" tag that displays the number of observations in the current area hides the catalog source that is currently selected with is a little annoying.
orientation, scale and finding charts
I use EsaSky (among others) to prepare ground-based observations. At Phase II you can provided a finding chart for the resident astronomer to use. The usually ask for the N and E direction and the scale.
The scale could be ala Google maps in with you represent 1 arcdeg, 1 arcmin, 1 arcsec depending on the scale you have selected.
N and E directions should be particularly useful if a previous ticket, regarding FoV rotation and inversion is implemented.
The capability of generating a finding chart without menus, etc would be also extremely useful.
URL shortener?
The feature of having an URL is great, you copy Google maps here :-). It would be even greater if a shortener version (e.g. goo.gl) is provided
GAIA DR2 epoch
GAIA DR2 coordinates epoch is 2015.5 which is the native one provided by GAIA. It would be useful to provide in more usual J2000.0 or at least in addition with 2015.5
The current form can be misleading. For example you could be preparing an observation and by error assume that the coordinates are in J2000.0, the error is substancial.
Gaia DR2 catalogue does not show in big fields
If you go to sky.esa.int/?action=goto&target=246.80577685364196%20-24.517894672834654&hips=AllWISE%20color&fov=6.616839145259243&cooframe=J2000 and try to show the Gaia DR2 catalogue, the query never ends..
