Dear Becky,

thanks for reporting this. We had a network maintenance at ESAC this week and are currently undergoing a database synchronisation. This may be affecting your query. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear Alejandro,

thank you very much for your suggestion. Please note that if you want to generate an image from any HiPS map included in ESASky, with the size, projection and resolution you choose, you can use the EDDIE Cutout Service:

https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/esdc/cutout-service

Does this service match your needs, or is there anything else you need?

With best regards,

Belén

Thank you for the clarification, John. We will study your proposal and let you know about any progress. To enhance the use of ESASky with python notebooks is certainly something we have in our roadmap.

Cheers,

Belén

Dear John,

thanks for your comment. We are already working on improving the filtering capabilities. They will be available soon.

Thank you for your suggestion! I also think this could be a very useful feature. Not only for science, also for education.

I don't know for sure in which context this was proposed, but I can imagine several applications:

  1. Select a specific region and zoom into it. This can help the analysis of particular features/objects.
  2. Define a specific region so that only the data covering that region are displayed (as a quick, visual way of filtering data).
  3. Define a specific region so that only the data covering that region are selected among all the data visualized in the sky  (but the rest of data are still displayed) -as a quick way of selecting data to download.
